I had planned to stay two nights but decided to leave earlier because I was afraid of running out of time to get to Antigua, Guatemala in time for my flight home.
Crossing the border in a small remote village is an unknown, as is availability of transportation in lightly settled areas, so I felt it would be wise to have a cushion of days.
In the terminal while waiting for my bus to arrive for my trip to Palenque, a family's belongings were being unloaded from the cargo area of another bus. After thirty minutes, as all the items, including a sectional sofa, were transferred to a pickup truck, I realized the move had been accomplished without the need of a moving van.
My worries escalated as I was paying for my stay in the Palenque hostel and realized that I left my credit card in an ATM that I withdrew money from this morning. Now I have the choice of a 13 hour roundtrip to try to retrieve the card or continue on with only the cash in my pocket. (My American Express card is not widely accepted)
I wonder if people would contribute money to a panhandling gringo.
